Low Carb Fried Shrimp that is full of flavor, and the best part is it’s keto friendly. Delicious fried jumbo shrimp coated in a low carb breading, serve this Low Carb appetizer with your favorite cocktail sauce!

Low Carb Breading

Almond flour is used in this recipe instead of bread crumbs in order to keep it low carb. Almond flour, parmesan cheese, paprika, salt, and pepper blend together to make this low carb breading.

Ingredients

  • Large or Jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Fine almond flour
  • Eggs
  • Butter or Olive oil 
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Smoked Paprika 
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Ground pork rinds (optional)

How To Make Low Carb Fried Shrimp

  1. Peeled and deveined your shrimp.
  2. Whisk dry ingredients together: Add almond flour, paprika, parmesan cheese, salt and pepper to a medium size dish and whisk to blend. Set aside.
  3. Whisk Wet Mixture: In a second medium size dish whisk eggs until blended.
  4. Heat butter or oil in pot: Preheat pan on medium-high heat while coating shrimp.
  5. Coat Shrimp: Dredge shrimp in egg mixture and coat on both sides, then coat in dry mixture.
  6. Fry shrimp: Cook shrimp for 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook for another 2 minutes.
  7. Remove shrimp: Once shrimp is cooked transfer to a plate or bowl lines with paper towels to drain.
  8. Serve: Plate shrimp and add a few lemon wedges and your favorite shrimp dip. Garnish shrimp with parsley if desired.

NOTE: If you want a thicker batter coating repeat step 4 two or three times. Dredge shrimp in egg mixture and coat on both sides, then coat in dry mixture. Dip shrimp back in egg mixture finish off coating in dry mixture.

How Long To Fry Shrimp

Fry large shrimp for 2-3 mins then flip and cook for another 2 mins. The time for frying shrimp will vary slightly depending on the size of shrimp and the temperature they were before adding to pan.

How To Tell When Shrimp Are Cooked

As mentioned previously you want to cook shrimp for 2-3 mins per side. Here are a few other ways you can tell when your shrimp are ready.

  • The outside breading should be lightly golden in color and the inside should be white or slightly pink.
  • Shrimp shrink as they cook so you should notice a smaller size.
  • Shrimp tend to curl as they finish cooking.

Can You Bake Fried Shrimp Instead Of Frying

Absolutely! After coating shrimp place them on a baking sheet and bake at 375 for 7-10 minutes.
