If you love pasta and you love Caribbean food, you will love Jerk Shrimp Rasta Pasta. Rasta Pasta is Italian inspired with a Jamaican twist, unique, and HUGE on flavor. Coming straight out of Jamaica, jerk seasoning is some of the best flavor in the world and this Jerk Shrimp Pasta does not disappoint.

RASTA PASTA EXPLAINED

Rasta Pasta is inspired by Italian dishes, however, made with traditional Jamaican ingredients. A Cream sauce is jazzed up with red peppers, onions, scallions, thyme and Jamaican seasoning.

JERK SEASONING

Jerk Seasoning can be purchased in most grocery stores or you can make your own. Jerk seasoning is typically made with:

  • paprika
  • onion powder
  • garlic powder
  • cayenne pepper
  • dried thyme
  • allspice
  • nutmeg
  • cinnamon
  • salt
  • pepper

JERK MARINADE

Homemade Jerk is a marinade of soy sauce, honey, ketchup, lime juice, scotch bonnet pepper, green onions, thyme, salt, pepper, all purpose seasoning, and jerk seasoning. Jerk Seasoning is made up of Caribbean-inspired spices and dried herbs.

Quick & Easy – This Jerk Shrimp recipe is super easy to put together. Just marinate the shrimp for about 30 minutes and cook for 3 minutes on each side – that’s it!  

HOW TO MAKE RASTA PASTA

  • Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Cook penne pasta according to the instructions on the box.
  • Once cooked, remove and strain.
  • In a large bowl add shrimp and seasoning ( all purpose seasoning, paprika, onion powder, black pepper, salt, honey, thyme, Jerk seasoning. Mix and marinate for 30 mins.
  • Heat a skillet medium-high heat add olive oil, and cook shrimp. ( about 3 minutes per side. until pink and cooked through )
  • Remove shrimp and plate.
  • Wipe pan and add 2 tablespoons olive oil in. Add onion, green onion and peppers. Cook them down about 5 minutes to soften.
  • Add all purpose seasoning, salt and pepper to taste. Cook for 1 minute, stirring occasionally.
  • Add heavy cream ( or coconut milk ), cheddar cheese and simmer for 5-10 minutes, until sauce thickens
  • Add pasta and toss with cream sauce.
  • Add Shrimp to pasta and mix ( save a few to serve on top )
  • Top with remaining jerk shrimp
  • Garnish with fresh parsley. Enjoy!

  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced ( optional )
  • 1 tablespoon Jamaican jerk seasoning
  • 1 cup heavy cream ( coconut milk is an alternative )
  • 1 cup of grated fresh Parmesan cheese (or more as needed)

  • penne pasta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 stalks green onion
  • 1 red pepper

  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley
