When we think of chicken salad, we think of comfort food without all the calories. It’s creamy, fresh and filling. This classic chicken salad recipe is the perfect go-to salad for a sandwich, wrap or to top a green salad.

INGREDIENTS

The ingredients for this recipe are simple, but mixed together it creates a delicious flavor.

  • Chicken  – We use baked chicken breast, shredded, for this recipe, but you can could use your favorite chicken.
  • Celery – Crisp celery chopped into cubes.
  • Sunflower seeds – Roast your pumpkin seeds to bring out the flavor.
  • Mayonnaise – Mayo binds all ingredients together.
  • Dijon Mustard – Adds great flavor, you just need a little.
  • Honey – A little goes a long way
  • Red Grapes – You want to use seedless grapes. If you prefer green grapes that’s fine also.
  • Parsley – One of the best herbs for adding to salads.
  • Lemon Juice – A little goes a long way.
  • Salt and Pepper – To taste.

Optional Items: Toasted Almonds

How To Make Classic Chicken Salad

This recipe comes together in just a few steps. First, you want to cook the chicken. Next, slice and dice your ingredients. Finally, Mix everything together.

  • Roast: Lightly roast 1/2 cup of sunflower seeds in a pan on medium heat. Let sunflower seeds cook before adding to bowl.
  • Slice: Cut up all ingredients into small sizes. From your chicken, to grapes, to celery, and parsley, make sure all ingredients are prepped.
  • Mix: Add all the ingredients to a large bowl and mix everything together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Note: Chicken salad is served cold so you want to make sure all ingredients are cooled down before adding into bowl.

How To Serve Chicken Salad

This recipe is so good you can eat it by itself. However, if you prefer to make it more of a full meal, here are a few ideas.

  • Sandwich: Add chicken salad between your favorite type of bread and build it as you desire.
  • Lettuce Wraps: For a low-carb option, grab a few romaine lettuce leafs and add chicken salad to them.
  • Green Salad: Top a green salad with a few spoonful’s of chicken salad.
  • Dip: Grab your favorite chips or crackers and dip away.

Ingredients
  

  • chicken
  • celery
  • mayo
  • Dijon mustard
  • honey
  • sunflower seeds
  • lemon
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions
 

  • Preheat over 350.
  • Season chicken and bake in the over for 40-45 mins. 
  • While chicken is baking, slice and dice remaining ingredients – Celery, grapes.
  • Slightly roast sunflower seeds in a small pan on medium heat. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Mix Mayonnaise, Dijon mustard and honey together in a small bowl.
  • Once chicken is cooked, transfer to a cutting board and dice. Let chicken cool before adding to bowl.
  • Add all ingredients to a bowl and mix together until well combined. Refrigerate.
